Happy New Year from Sister Enable, La Gitana and our new associate worker, Mama Fien, who will be helping us help you in 2014!
Out with the old and in with the new...
Here is a very simple working you can try yourselves if you feel so inclined. You can do this at any time of year but new year is a great time as you can work it along with your resolutions.
Some people call this kind of work a "Cut and Clear", some call it a Removal and Attraction work and there are other names for it too. People have various ways of doing this. Here is one way you can try...
The basic idea here is to draw in the positive and remove the negative... the negative in this instance being things that you are holding onto that you wish you weren't - things you want to move on from... maybe thoughts of having failed in a situation, maybe thoughts about an ex lover that bring up the past and hurt you, maybe a lack of motivation or inertia or maybe past family hurts... really anything you don't want to hold onto in your life.
You will need three jar candles... a black one, a yellow one and a white one, some brown paper, a pen, a lemon and some thread - preferably black but plain string will work just as well - and some olive oil and a little sea salt.
Take some olive oil and add to it some lemon peel and some sea salt (not too much salt, a small sprinkling is adequate). Or, some lemon essential oil with some sea salt would work just as well.
Dress your black and yellow candles with this oil you have made and add a link of yours (a hair is good) to all three candles by pushing the oil and hair down five holes at the top of the candle - four in a square and one in the center near the wick (you can make the holes using a kebab skewer, a nail, even a chopstick...cleanse the implement first though, along with anything else you are using here). Don't overload your candles, you don't want a fire hazardous set of candles.
Dress your white candle with olive oil you have prayed Psalm 23 over or use a blessing oil or drawing oil of our choice.
Now make three lists : one on the left side of the paper, one in the center and one on the right hand side of the paper. (Lay an A4 sheet sideways so you have the space to do this). On the far left :- write all the things that have troubled you greatly, energies that you have held onto for way too long, the real tricky things; in the center write all the things you want to let go of but which are less intense (but still need canning) and on the right hand side, write down what you want to bring into your life. You can be as specific as you like and the list can be as long as you want.
Once the lists are done, cut the paper vertically, separating one section from another, using scissors.
Spot some of the lemon oil you used to dress the black and yellow candles onto the lists with the things you want to get rid of . Set aside for now.
Next, spot some of the prayed over olive oil or blessing oil onto the list of what you want to draw to you and fold that paper towards you.
Then, take the list of the very tricky stuff (the list that you wrote on the far left side of the paper) and cut it again, cutting it up into two halves, "separating" it from itself in a diagonal cut. Take one half and fold it away from you until you have a little packet and place it inside the lemon and tie that lemon up with a black thread. Set this in front of your black candle. Take the other half, fold it away from you and set it under your black candle, to the left of your work space.
Next take the list of things that are less intense but still need to be gotten rid of and fold that away from you and set under the yellow candle which you will place to the right of the black candle.
Finally, place the white candle over the top of the things you want to draw into your new year and set that to the right of the yellow candle (see picture).
Light your candles from left to right and pray over them any psalm or prayer that resonates with you for this work - alternatively simply state your petition.
If there is a lot of darkness/soot/residue in any of the candles after they have burned out, you may have to re-do this work until the jars burn clear. Keep the lemon until it has dried out. You can hang it at a window after the candles have burned out until it has dried, pre disposal. The theory behind that is when the lemon dries up, so will the issues and once the candle burn clear - or at least end up clear (you may have darkness at the top which clears as the work tarts to work) the issues clarify and dissolve.
You can change this simple working up and make it your own by adding herbs to the mix if you are working for one specific matter (for example, you might like to use balm of gilead to add when dressing the candles if you are wanting specifically to get rid of the pain of an old relationship and draw in a better one - you might add one to each candle for example...and so on).
So be creative, but do be safe - an overloaded candle or an un-supervized candle can be a fire hazard).
May you successfully rid yourself of the old and bring in the new, attracting a positive and blessed 2014.
Run Riot did an amazing interview with Sister Enable and La Gitana giving background to what London Conjure does, how they work, and some advice on how to keep your New Years resolutions. NY Times did an article and beautiful slideshow on "The Witches' Compass co run by La Gitana of London Conjure. Luna Luna wrote a wonderful write up as well. London Conjure now has a youtube channel. We'll be posting every week on a different subject. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have specific questions you'd like answered.
It's been requested that we do a blog piece on a limpia cleanse (an egg cleanse) (shout out to Jessica Miller), so hopefully this will give people who aren't familiar with it a better idea of what it is and how to go about it. Although this is used by conjure workers, essentially it is a Latin American method of cleansing (used widely within brujeria) and would technically not be "conjure" as such. However, it does work, and so we use it.
Different people have different methods of doing a limpia. This is how we do it here:
First of all, if you are doing this for another person, we would suggest that you protect yourself first, as you have no idea what spiritual grime the other person may have picked up. If you are doing it for yourself, this is not so important as you will be removing your own spiritual grime, so we would suggest that you protect after the limpia (though it is always a sound move to keep yourself protected at all times).
OK... this is what you do...
Take an egg (preferably one that has not been refrigerated or it won't be a very pleasant experience for the person having it rolled along them! ) and cleanse the egg. You can do this with holy water, Florida water or anything along those lines.
Once you have your cleansed egg, whilst saying the Lord's prayer (if that resonates with you), make the sign of the cross with your egg on the forehead of the person the limpia is for and then use it like a broom and with a kind of sweeping motion, moving the egg, from the top of your head to your feet in a downwards motion, paying particular attention to covering any body openings as well as the area where your neck meets your head and between the shoulder blades and making the sign of the cross as you move downwards with the egg at the heart area, the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, area where the neck joins the head between the shoulder blades and any body openings.
When you reach the bottom (ground area, soles of feet), should you feel/sense there is more to cleanse, you can simply return to the top part of the body and make as many further downwards "rolls" as you feel. Don't, however, sweep/roll the egg back upwards or you will be putting back everything you have just removed - just pick it up and begin again with it again, as before.
If at any time the egg cracks or breaks, dispose of the egg (we tend to flush the whole thing in the lavatory, but be sure you have a good plumbing system if you do that as you do not want any negative energy "blocking up" your household plumbing - or you could dispose of it in running water, such as a stream or a river or bury it off your property), get a new egg and start the procedure again. Again, other people may have other methods of disposal - this is simply how we do it here.
Depending on the area of the body at which the egg cracked, it will give an indication as to a source of a problem or blockage (for example, if it cracks over the genital area it may be a fertility, sexual or relationship issue... just to give an example).
If you are wanting to look for signs in the egg, break it into a clear receptacle with water in it so that you can take a good look. If you are not looking for signs, simply dispose of it as previously described. Oh... and if the egg is clear and there are no "signs", then the person who had the limpia is fine, no "nasties" on them to get rid of, all is well.
If you ARE looking for signs to determine if the cleansing needs to be repeated, here is a very brief outline. There are many signs to read, but for a very basic outline of the idea of how it works: if you have blood in the yolk, big air bubbles, a string dangling from the yolk, murky water or a bad smell, you need to repeat the cleanse until the yolk is clear.
In the picture here the client definitely needed a few cleanses as well as an uncrossing work. Here you will ee there are strings, big bubbles, even faces to be seen here (look to the left and right - on the left we see something which looks like a skull (which can mean someone or some people are working against the client) and the whole appearance of the limpia is "murky".
Basic Candle Cleanse: We've had a few people ask what this is and how you do it and what it is for.... so, thought we'd explain. Any questions, just ask away. You would use this for the same reasons as you would do a limpia (egg cleanse) - so if you felt a little "off" (or a lot "off"!) and wanted to remove any negative energies from yourself.
If you're going to launch into a big working or if you have just done a big working, this is also a pretty good thing to do. It is very easy to do. Anyone can do it. You don't need any prayers, incantations or special oils or bells and whistles... all you need is one white stick candle, a fireproof dish or plate and some salt.Get your dish and make a ring around the edge with the salt. Next, take your stick candle and hold it horizontally (doesn't matter which way the wick i pointing - whether it's to the right or left makes no difference) and roll or sweep it down your body starting from the crown of your head right down to your feet (and be sure that as you sweep you cover all body entrance points and pay special attention to where your head meets your neck as this is the place where spirits mount a person, as well as rubbing it along the soles of your feet (heel to toe direction on each foot). You can take the candle and sweep downwards or roll downwards with it as many times as you "feel/sense" is needed. But lift the candle back up to the top of your head... don't be rolling it down then rolling it back up again. When you get to the soles of your feet point, then just stand up straight again and start off again from the top of your head. You should be able to "sense" when you've rolled enough. If you like you can close your eyes and say the Lord's Prayer as you do this (you don't have to, but we find it does help). Once you have finished doing all of that, set your candle inside the salt ring on your plate (we usually drip wax from the bottom of the candle onto the plate to stick it directly onto it... Avoid using a candle holder for this) and then light your candle. As you do all the negativity that the candle has picked up off of you will be burned away. You feel a whole lot better afterwards. You should sense the difference in energy not too long after doing this. Now wash your hands thoroughly (use Florida water if you have it, if you haven't don't worry, just use soap and water and your intention) and let the candle burn down. Once it has burned down, take the residue and the salt and dispose of it in the general direction of away from you and your house... off of your property. You can throw it to the crossroads if you would like, but we find that wrapping it all up and throwing it in a trash can somewhere works just as well. Just don't be burying it in cemeteries or anything... all you're doing is cleansing yourself here!
